HyperCard will look for stacks in the folders indicated on this card.  Each line of this card describes a "path".  A "path" describes the location of a folder.  A folder containing stacks may appear on the desktop or may itself be contained in another folder.  Paths help HyperCard find stacks quickly.

  28. :Main Stacks:  
  29.      Tells HyperCard that there are stacks in the "Main Stacks" folder on the disk. The colon right before the "M" of "Main" tells HyperCard to look for the folder in the same place as the HyperCard application on the disk (relative path).

  31. HyperCard 3:Ideas Stacks:  
  32.      Tells HyperCard that there are stacks in the "Ideas Stacks" folder and that this folder is in the disk named "HyperCard 3".  Notice that there is no colon preceding the disk name.

  34. Tom:Stacks:My Stacks: 
  35.      Tells HyperCard that there are stacks in a folder called "My Stacks", and that this folder is in another one called  "Stacks" which sits on a disk called Tom (e.g. name of your hard disk).

When  you type "go to stack X" in the message box or when a button takes you to a new stack,  HyperCard searches for the stack according to the paths in this card. If the stack is not found, a dialog box appears, asking "Where is stack X ?". When you locate the stack with this dialog box, the path card is automatically updated so that the next time HyperCard will know where to find the stack.
